About Us

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology is one of the foundational departments in the Faculty of Basic Medical sciences at Obafemi Awolowo University. We are committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service, with a strong focus on advancing knowledge in various specialties ranging from Gastrointestinal Anatomy, Reproductive Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Spine Anatomy, Renal Anatomy, Endocrinology and Cardiovascular Anatomy.  Our academic staff comprise dedicated and experienced scholars who are actively engaged in teaching, research, and mentorship. The Department of Anatomy& Cell Biology has continuously trained undergraduate and postgraduate personnel in its efforts to obviate the acute shortage of highly trained Medical Scientists and other allied professionals in the field Anatomy in Nigeria.  The department maintains a culture of discipline, collaboration, and continuous improvement, in line with the core values of Obafemi Awolowo University.

Research is one of the central pillars of our department. We encourage interdisciplinary collaboration in areas of anatomy and related disciplines. Our staff and students are involved in cutting edge research activities andcontribute to the body of knowledge at both national and international levels. History

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology came into existence in 1977 following the break-up of the then Division of Human Biology and Behavioural Sciences. The department serves as a key component of the College of Health Sciences, training medical and allied health professionals.The Department is one of the foundation departments of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences at its creation in 1993 from the then Faculty of Health Sciences which became the College of Health Sciences
